Another Kooky way to “save democracy”

In an op-ed piece in the Washington Post, the author (a lawyer none the less), suggests that the way to save democracy is to tax energy so that people will not have the money for computers and thereby reduce the opposition to the policies of Mordor. Would it surprise you that Dusty Horwitt is a lawyer for an environmental group (Environmental Working Group)? In checking this out, I went to the source and sure enough, here it is. The lawyer Dusty Horwitt did indeed put forth the idea of saving democracy is to reduce the number of blogs by raising taxes on energy. Since the empire is always looking for ways to make a buck, there will be some who give credence to Horwitt’s suggestion. What this tells me is that the blogs are making a difference. The outcry concerning the empire’s oppressive ways is becoming known.

It’s election time: What is your county up to?

Just as sure as summer time goes with cicadas, election time goes with local law enforcement going after adult-oriented businesses. The City of Houston has been using the legal system in its attempts at shutting down adult businesses, yet they keep finding loopholes to avoid closure. The lawyers for the businesses call themselves bookstores or ‘bikini bars’ in their efforts at finding loopholes. I find it entertaining how this cat and mouse game goes on every election year. When it is not adult businesses, it is gambling establishments. Such businesses are not good for communities, yet the legal system manages allowing them to continue (gee, I wonder which judges are receiving contributions from the their election campaign?).

The Texas legal system is not to be outdone. Now they have decided to track children who do not attend government schools. The system involves ankle bracelets and GPS tracking in Bexar County. It will be interesting to see how the legal systems in Counties of Bexar and Harris will do with their perspective targets. In Houston, they can’t prosecute adult businesses and in San Antonio they can’t keep track of their truants.

DHS doing their job.?.?.

In a story by the International Herald Tribune, there are increasing incidents of Homeland security searching through laptops or other electronic devices. This story and others portray the agency as going through everyone’s devices. My own experience is that it is not as widespread as the article makes it sound. In the article is a line that points out that one particular group is being singled out for searches. That line suggests that the department is finally profiling those individuals that have the greater likelihood of nefarious activity than other groups, rather than blanket across the board searches.

What has happened is that the G8 nations are considering expanding their searching for illegal downloads. The boogey man of illegal downloads are being used as an excuse to go fishing for other data.

When I was a teen, the police knew who the trouble makers in the community were and they were on the lookout for those persons. There was less latitude for the trouble makers than for the rest of the community. My take on the news is that such an occurrence is what is happening.  Like many of the news stories today, what is reported is designed to direct the attention of the reader to a specific item. It could be that some in the government are actually protecting the border. Granted, some agents may be doing their job and then some.

This item was one that my experience did not line up with what was reported. I have found that Dixienet.org is not available in all countries or on all internet providers even in the empire. MSN is notorious for having skewed searches for Southern related materials. Can I say that there is a conspiracy to block Southron sites? No, it is happening in some areas, but it is not occurring across the land.

Now televisions are a threat to the environment!

Now the environmentalists are claiming that Plasma and LCD televisions are more dangerous than carbon for the environment! It seems that either these people do not do their homework or that they are alarmist about every new aspect of technology. If government left us alone, and did not interfere in the everyday lives of people, we would all be much better off. It is not government’s  job to tell us how to live our lives, what we can use on our lawns and how big our toilets are, especially when they can not secure the border and keep the streets safe. It is more than ironic that the cities with the handgun ban are filled with crime. Chicago and the Imperial City are notorious for crime.

Cities and States that allow concealed carry and allow handgun ownership, on the other hand do not have such reputations. Another factor is the morals and values of the people. When the people do not have a value system that cherishes life, repects private property and despises immorality, how can you expect crime to go down?

When life is valued, family is a priority, private property respected by citizens and government, and immorality is condemened in the pulpits and public speeches, things will change. At present, the government removes the moral guidance of the ten commandments, and moral absolutes hping that people will make good choices. Classes are taught on ethics, but ethics mean little if your value system is not based on moral absolutes.

Plasma and flat screen TV’s are not the biggest threat to the environment, government is. When people own their own property, they take better care of it. A sure way to ruin the environment is to turn ownership over to the government. They can’t take care of what they have, but they want to tell us how to take care of our homes, lawns, and children. The answer is not more government or more laws. The answer is less government.

HB 2833-Requiring Private Investigators License for computer work

While the citizens of Texas were distracted, the hired help passed a low requiring a Private Investigator’s license for repairing computers. The law requires that a licensed PI is needed for many professional areas that were previously open. If you run a security business, alarm company, are a locksmith or repair computers, now you must have a license. Leave it to the “Keep Austin Weird” crowd to come up with something like this. This is government craziness on steroids. The new law also has teeth, levying a hefty fine on those breaking the new law. It does require people to maintain confidential records on all those who they provide service for. Even this is suspect, because now they have to keep records, when before that was not an issue. It places many professions under the watchful eyes of the Department of Public Safety.

The bill itself was sponsored by Joe Driver of Dallas. Prior to his legislative experience, he was an insurance salesman which may explain some of the thinking in the bill. Although Joe Driver says that computer technicians will not need the license for hardware repairs, any retrieval of data will require the license. The danger of bills like this is HOW will the judges interpret the law. It does not make any difference as to what was intended, it is determined by the judges definition of what it means. Many legal scholars are already looking at the case and see it as in infringement on free speech and shutting the door on computer entrpeneurs. This is a situation that bears watching. In some ways it may be what turns geeks into informants.

New Technolgy: New Control

Bruce Schnieder wrote a column today on the new technology (The article is entitled, “I’ve seen the future and it has a kill switch). Although the Nashville Agrarians expressed a well-deserved disdain for progressivism (Progress just for the sake of progress), once technology is developed it is not easily put in a box. Southron culture will continue with or without advents in technology. What is a matter of concern is how some of the big companies and government are working together to make technology that intentionally does not work. The idea of police having the capability to stop cars via electronic signals is definitely a threat to everyone’s freedom.

It is intrusive that government can disable cell phones, cameras, or whatever as the situation arises. With the new technology, there are new ways devised of using it to control the masses. The threats to freedom are considerable.

Ya’ll need to be aware of how the freedoms available through the new technologies also have new control mechanisms. You may want to purchase used cars (without onstar), use old technology cameras, and learn how to take your electronic devices “off the matrix”.

Southrons can certainly benefit from new technologies, but we must not be cripples by them.

Southern Heroes Set #3

Southern Heroes Set # 3

Like any other distinct people, Southerners have our own heroes — those who have dared to challenge our enemies in defense of our beloved Southland. Sometimes in the halls of government and sometimes on the field of battle, these Southern heroes are the kind of men worthy of emulation and admiration of men, women, and children, alike.

This Set Includes:

  • Steven Wilkins - “Patrick Henry & Constitutional Liberty”
Patrick Henry was one of the few American patriots who spoke out against the proposed constitutional convention in 1787 and refused to attend. In this presentation, Pastor Steven Wilkins explains Patrick Henry’s concerns about the creation of a more powerful federal government and his arguments for the proper way to ensure true liberty in the new American Republic. The visionary thoughts of Patrick Henry are, indeed, appropriate for consideration in our own day of an out-of-control federal government.

  • Robert Maddox - “The Christian Character of Stonewall Jackson”
No true Southern patriot ever tires of hearing a new account of the life of the Confederacy’s greatest hero. Stonewall Jackson was the embodiment of everything best about the Old South, in both his life and his death. Dr. Maddox presents Stonewall in a refreshing presentation which will arouse and motivate you to do more for the Southern Cause, yourself.

  • Steven Wilkins - “The Brief Life of Jeb Stuart”
The dashing cavalry commander Jeb Stuart was the “eyes and ears” of Lee’s army. His daring raids and exploits behind enemy lines made him a household name throughout the Confederacy. His chivalry rivaled even that of the legendary knights of the Round Table. This presentation by Pastor Wilkins is one of the few recorded messages about the life of this great Southern general.

  • Clyde Wilson - “John C. Calhoun”
John C. Calhoun was the foremost spokesman for Southern Rights and “States’ Rights” for an entire generation before the War for Southern Independence. He spent an entire career in Congress, representing his home state of South Carolina, and led the effort to nullify the Tariff of Abominations… an action which nearly precipitated war years earlier than it actually came. His vigorous defence of the use of the Doctrine of Nullification by the states is perhaps the single best chance to restore our liberties in the face of growing federal encroachment today. And there is none more qualified to speak on Calhoun than Professor Clyde Wilson of the University of South Carolina, editor of the Calhoun Papers.

Press Release re: DixieNet

The Rebirth of DixieNet

LS News Service - 15 April AD 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Recent statistical data indicates that as the political and social outlook becomes more uncertain, the public is taking a serious look at the viability of political devolution and the message of the League of the South.

KILLEN, AL (LSNS) - The figures for website visitors to the LS National website, DixieNet.Org, reveal a sharp increase during the month of March 2008 as well as the early days of April, according to official statistical data compiled by the DixieNet website project team. ”We are very pleased with this latest report,” said LS President, Michael Hill.  Dr Hill continued, “DixieNet traffic has been on a steady increase since October 2007 without any sign of slowing down. This trend indicates to us that the public is taking a serious look at our message of political devolution in these very uncertain times.”  Thanks to public interest generated from the Second North American Secessionist Convention and the League of the South National Conference held in Chattanooga, TN, October was one of the most productive months for the League in recent memory and has served as the catalyst for an ever growing flow of traffic to DixieNet.

“While we are excited about our progress thus far, we are in no way prepared to rest upon our laurels,” said Terry Compton, DixieNet website project leader.  ”In fact,” Compton continues, “Mike Crane, Mike Tuggle, and I are working harder now than ever before to make DixieNet the gold standard for online public relations, not only among Southern Movement websites, but within the realm of social and political activism in general.”

DixieNet.Org boasts a hefty repository of content ranging from scholarly essays on states’ rights, Southern cultural resurgence, economic issues, and education, to articles on the modern trend toward devolution as a viable means of regaining the political, social, and cultural right of self determination for peoples world wide.

For additional information about the League of the South, DixieNet, or how to advertise  your business with the website, please visit http://www.dixienet.org or contact the League of the South national office at (800) 888-3163.
