The Chattanooga Declaration, pt. 3

The third section of the Chattanooga Declaration states, “The power of corporations endangers liberty as much as government power, especially when they are combined as in the American Empire.”

Traditionally when businesses and governments combine what they are doing it is called fascism. When the government completely takes over businesses, it has become communism. In this statement, the danger of government and business partnerships are acknowledged. It also acknowledges that those partnerships are dangerous for Americans as a whole. If you don not believe this look at the Federal Reserve. It is a business that is working with the government. The decisions of the Federal Reserve sends shock waves through the empire and the world.

Take a look at Wachovia. This company has been scarfing up smaller banks and other financial companies. In many ways the decisions made concerning how they do business dictate how banking is done in many parts of the country.

Another large business is Haliburton. Look at what has happened when it has worked with government agencies. There are times one begins to wonder where does the government end and Haliburton begin. The decisions of companies like Haliburton, IBM, GM, Archer Daniels Midland or other major players have major impacts on the the lives of people throughout the south. So it is not just large banking groups, but also industrial groups that impact the lives of Southrons.

Many business devise their business plans around government funding rather than solid business practices. At a recent professional meeting, I heard the lobbyist hired by the organization’s report. Instead of putting his efforts on getting government off the backs of the organization, his efforts were on how much government funding they managed to arrange. When actions such as that dominate an organization, there are no solid business plans and in the long run, the people are hurt.

These are just a few examples of how corporations have become important, and potentially endanger liberty. A few decisions here or there and lives are completely turned around.

For Southern Independence,

J Murrah
