No guns for vets?

The latest wackiness out of Mordor on the Potomac is the Veterans Disarmament Bill (HR 2640)*. In this legislation is the exclusion of veterans who suffered PTSD or other traumatic disorders from the approved list of gun purchasers. The organization Gun Owners of America is doing a lot to stop the bills progress. This lunacy began under the tyrant Clinton I, and has been endorsed by the NRA. The bill has the potential of disarming many former military and possible police personnel. It is gun grabbing by another name.

The insidiousness of this act worsens when you consider that many of the candidates want “universal health care”. All that would do is spread the net and identify all those individuals who meet the criteria and have it in one central data base. The HIPAA act allows the government to gain easier access to healthcare records. The whole situation is Leviathan at its worst. Much like the description of leviathan as a sea creature with tentacles, this attempt at gun grabbing has many tentacles. The combination of HIPAA, with such legislation is what makes it so insidious. Many veterans of Vietnam or other conflicts who obtained help in what they thought were confidential circumstances now face a significant threat to their gun carrying liberties.

This legislation poses a notable threat to the liberties of everyone and needs to be opposed.

Here is a list of the main sponsor and co-sponsors of this tyrannical act:

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy [D-NY]hide cosponsors

Cosponsors [as of 2007-07-29]

Rep. Timothy Bishop [D-NY]

Rep. Frederick Boucher [D-VA]

Rep. Lois Capps [D-CA]

Rep. Michael Castle [R-DE]

Del. Donna Christensen [D-VI]

Rep. John Dingell [D-MI]

Rep. Rahm Emanuel [D-IL]

Rep. Nita Lowey [D-NY]

Rep. Dennis Moore [D-KS]

Rep. James Moran [D-VA]

Rep. William Pascrell [D-NJ]

Rep. Mike Ross [D-AR]

Rep. Janice Schakowsky [D-IL]

Rep. Christopher Shays [R-CT]

Rep. Brad Sherman [D-CA]

Rep. Lamar Smith [R-TX]

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz [D-FL]

It always disturbs me when Southrons are among those who sponsor such acts. In this case, the only CONgressman from Texas is Lamar Smith. Since the bill has already left the house, any hopes of its defeat rests in the Senate. Just in looking at the list of sponsors, five are from Southern states, while thirteen are from states in the old Union, which is also telling.

In a free south, the right to bear arms would be protected, especially for those who served the nation and put their lives in harm’s way protecting the Confederacy.

Free Texas!

J Murrah

PS The bill passed the house on June 13. No records of the vote were kept (which means the rats knew they were up to something.) The house Judiciary Committee, which contains CONgresswomen Sheila Jackson Lee and Maxine Watters of the Jena 6 march were key players in this debacle. After the bill was introduced, it was sent to this esteemed committee. After gainingĀ  their endorsement, it went to the floor for a vote. The title of the bill is the NCIS Improvement Act.
