If you keep up with terror threats, one of the largest is that of container shipping. It seems that those large containers are rarely if ever searched on crossing the borders into the US. The lack of monitoring is a concern Shipping Containers Pose a Threat . I have seen the large size of those containers and certainly see how they would pose a potential threat. When I begin connecting the dots, things become murky.
Just who is responsible for those shipping containers? Well according to the Houston Port Authority, they are not Port not responsible for containers . The Port says it is the shipping companies that are responsible. If the Port is not responsible, then why do they receive all the money from the government and taxes for their security operations? The Port of Houston is showcasing itself to the world as a model for ports Port Showcasing itself . They have been going around speaking about how they need to expand their facilities. Lobbies for more containers . I guess I do not understand Port of Houston politics. Logically if you campaign for something, and get money for it, doesn’t that imply that you are responsible for it? Apparently not if it is the Port of Houston. The Port of Houston is another example of bureaucracy gone bad-REAL Bad. This is typical of pass the buck Yankee business model hogwash. This is the same kind of stuff we will see with the Trans-Texas corridor, and other government boondoggles. The Port Authority has shown that it is incompetent to take on such projects. If it can not decide who is responsible for the containers, yet accepts the money and parades itself to the world as a "world class facility", then the only thing they are good at is PR campaigns. Their incompetence does not help one feel safe or secure at night, knowing that containers are stacked 6 high, and they are not responsible for the health and security threats those things pose. The port serves as a drain on the economy of the nation as a whole. Our Tax dollars at work! Our tax dollars working us over with another tax and spend bureaucracy is more like it. Not only that, they now have guards with guns. Nothing is more dangerous than a bureaucracy with the power to tax and arm itself, yet has no accountability.
Spokesman Jim Edmonds said, "Bayport will comply with Houston’s clean air program. As a matter of fact, emissions from Bayport will meet the air quality standards for diesel particulate established by EPA and the State of California"-Remarks on Bayport May 16, 2003.
The reality is something different. Pollution is already a concern for local cities effected by Bayport shortly after its opening.Local Cities complain about Bayport traffic and pollution. What amazes me is how so many agencies have bent over backwards for this project from the EPA to the Army Corps of Engineers. Pollution studies were put off until 2007. The Galveston Bay group found that the area can not handle the pollution generated. Bayport fails on pollution. The Port of Houston has already had pollution problems, which it settled out of court. Pollution lawsuit settled out of court . Houston without the port was experiencing difficulties meeting pollution standards, but the port strains it beyond comprehension.Houston out of pollution compliance .
