Hello, and welcome to my ezine, Common Sense.
This ezine is published weekly. The main content will be a summary of my blog posts from the previous week.
In my new book, Straight Talk for Success, I make the point that all successful people have five things in common.
- Successful people are self confident.
- Successful people create positive personal impact.
- Successful people are outstanding performers.
- Successful people are great communicators.
- Successful people are interpersonally competent.
I blog about one of these five keys to success everyday. On Monday, I blog about self confidence; Tuesday, positive personal impact; Wednesday, outstanding performance; Thursday, communication skills; and Friday, interpersonal competence.
I know that you probably don’t have time to read my blog posts every day, so I’ve decided to summarize them in this ezine. Every Monday, you’ll get an e mail from me with a summary of the blog posts from the previous week. I’ll include a link to each post to make it easy for you to read the entire post if the summary tantalizes you.

Monday – Get in the Game |
Optimists try. They are willing to risk defeat and all that comes with it to reach their goals. Pessimists most often don’t try, or they give it a half hearted effort. If you want to succeed in your career and life, you have to believe you can succeed and then do the work to justify your optimism.

Wednesday - Outstanding Performers are Lifelong Learners |
There is a lot of knowledge on career and life success available. A lot of it is in the classic books identified by the editors of SUCCESS Magazine. I’ve read 10 of the 25 classics. I’m committing to reading the other 15 over the next 15 months.

Thursday - Tune Into WII FM |
Good communicators are good conversationalists. They write well, and they present well. Good conversationalists ask a lot of questions, really listen to what the other person has to say and then respond appropriately. If you do these three things you’ll be tuning into what’s in it for the other person. And, you’ll become known as a great conversationalist.

Friday - "The List" and Interpersonal Competence |
Interpersonally competent people build strong relationships with the important people in their lives. They do this by practicing the advice dispensed in Mentor, by Tom Pace. Among other things, they: have integrity and values; listen well; don’t take things personally; help others; encourage others; repay favors; accept responsibility; value people; share in others’ joy. These items are on Tom Pace’s “The List.” They are a great place to start your journey towards interpersonal competence.
